The most important people in our school are our children!
We have amazing children! All working and playing together under our motto ‘Learning, Sharing and Growing Together as Friends’, they are all central to everything we do! It is, therefore, absolutely right that the children should have a significant and direct voice in every aspect of what goes on.
There are lots of different ways that children can get involved: they might want to become Eco-Warriors, or Pupil Librarians, or Journalists, or Young Leaders, or Prefects. However, at the core of it all are our School Council.
Being on the School Council as a child is a little bit like being on the Governing Body as an adult. The School Council discuss appropriate issues of direct concern to the children, and work with teachers and other staff to make their school even better! They are also responsible for collecting and responding to the entries in our school Suggestion Boxes.
At the beginning of the year, a vote is taken in every class to decide on a boy and a girl to represent the class as School Councillors. You can spot children on the School Council by the badge that they wear on their arm. The School Council meet regularly with our Assistant Headteacher Mrs Arnold to discuss all the issues pertinent to their class and decide on any action to be taken. They then feed back to their class and take on board any further ideas and suggestions, ready for the next meeting!
In recent years our school council made a significant difference to our playground, which was looking a bit drab following the completion of our major expansion works. Thanks to School Council ideas, the playground was repainted with new markings, and a stunning mural, themed around our love of children’s literature and our ‘Learning, Sharing and Growing Together as Friends’ culture!
