Welcome to our Foundation Stage Classes
Our Foundation Stage comprises of those children who are currently in Nursery and Reception. Miss Moir is our Infant Manager which means that she oversees Foundation Stage, as well as Key Stage One.
Our Foundation Stage are lucky enough to have their very own corridor! This means that during free flow, our Reception children have access to their learning rooms, a joint outside area and the joint corridor! Of course they explore the other amazing areas within our school too, but having their own corridor means that they continually have an open, free flowing space!
Our Nursery children also have access to their very own garden! There is a gate that allows free flow between our Reception and Nursery children and this is utilised at different points of the year.

Our Nursery offers morning sessions, afternoon sessions and all day sessions. The curriculum follows the Early Years Development Matters Framework. All areas are taught in a creative and cross curricular way and led by the children. Children learn early phonics everyday, and participate in a numeracy and literacy focused carpet session daily. The indoor and outdoor learning environments help to facilitate the children’s learning and development and the children’s interests are included in everything we do.
As a two form entry school, we have two Reception classes. Carle class, named after Eric Carle, is led by Miss Moir. Our Donaldson class, named after Julia Donaldson, is led by Miss Dixon. Our Reception children enjoy free flow through the day which means that they lead their own learning. Our teachers facilitate this by ensuring that the environments, both indoors and outdoors, are created with the children’s interests in mind. Our children also participate in daily phonics, as well as a literacy and numeracy carpet session.
What will my child be learning?
Each year group has their very own Yearly Overview which outlines exactly what will be taught in each term throughout the year. The Nursery and Reception Yearly Overviews are separated into the six half terms with learning divided between the seven main areas as outlined in the Early Years Development Matters Framework.
